How Long Does Concrete Need to Cure?

Foot traffic at 24 hours, vehicles at 7 days, full strength at 28 — and why that matters.

Fresh concrete looks hard within hours, but it’s not at full strength for nearly a month. Here’s the real cure timeline.

24 hours

Forms can come off most pours. Light foot traffic is OK. Don’t drive, drop weight, or place heavy objects on it.

7 days

Light vehicles can drive on it. Concrete is at roughly 70% of design strength.

28 days

Full design strength reached. Heavy vehicles, sealing, and decorative coatings can be applied safely.

Why this matters

Driving on concrete too soon — even just once — can cause invisible micro-cracking that becomes visible spider cracks years later. Waiting the 7 days is worth it.
