Best Time of Year to Pour Concrete in Missouri

Why mid-spring through early fall produces the strongest, longest-lasting slabs.

Concrete can technically be poured year-round, but there’s a clear best season for the strongest, longest-lasting slabs in Missouri’s climate.

Best: mid-April through mid-October

Air temperatures consistently between 50°F and 85°F, low risk of overnight freezes, manageable humidity. Concrete cures evenly and reaches full design strength on schedule.

OK with care: March, November

Pourable with proper blankets, accelerator additives, and overnight protection. Costs slightly more due to additives and labor.

Risky: December–February

Possible only with heated enclosures, hot mix, and continuous monitoring. We rarely recommend it for residential work — it’s better to wait.

Avoid: extreme heat (95°F+ multiple days running)

High heat causes flash-set and surface cracking. We pour early morning during heatwaves and use retarders when needed.
